Education in Israel/Palestine – the importance of embracing a common humanity

After discussing the lynching of Palestinian youths in Jerusalem this summer, the racist beliefs among Israeli youth and the deep-rooted segregation in the Israeli school system, Neve Gordon will describe a fairly new school which brings Jewish and Palestinian children together in an effort to underscore the common humanity of the people in the region.

Neve Gordon is an Israeli academic and currently a member at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University. He is the author of Israel’s Occupation and co-author of Torture: Human Rights, Medical Ethics. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and the Watson Institute at Brown University and has published in numerous scholarly journals and newspapers. During the first intifada, he was the director of Physicians for Human Rights – Israel.
