Palestinian children in Israeli detention

22 June 2011, CREA Amsterdam. 23 June 2011, Humanity House The Hague

With Gerard Horton, Lawyer and International Advocacy Officer at  Defence for Children International-Palestine Section.

Since 1967, Palestinian children as young as 12 years have been prosecuted in Israeli military courts and imprisoned inside Israel. These children are generally arrested in the middle of the night by heavily armed soldiers and taken, bound and blindfolded, to interrogation and detention centres, usually located inside settlements. Reports of ill-treatment during arrest, transfer and interrogation are common place, leading to the provision of confessions and conviction by military court in the overwhelming majority of cases. Gerard Horton will give an overview of the situation children face in the Israeli military courts, consider what the underlying purpose of the system might be and will conclude by considering just some of the options available to those wishing to provide a defence to children in the system.

This meeting is organized in cooperation with CREA and Democratie en Media.
